No Narinder, the England flag has not been hijacked by far-Right groups
Flags are important because their represent our history and our future, not just one aspect of history Narinder Kaur feels obliged to highlight whenever she is given the opportunity.
There is probably nothing more idiotic than holding an opinion that is as odds with reality. Well this is what Narinder Kaur, a social commentator, appears to have done. On her most recent appearance on Good Morning Britain, Kaur berated the St. George’s flag as being hijacked by far-Right groups - as a result, Kaur is of the belief that the average Englishman cannot feel pride in the nation.
This is not only a bizarre position, but it is also at odds with reality. The idea that one cannot be proud of their country today, because of the sins of the past, holds the country hostage to that which it has no control over. We cannot go back in history and undo any of the wrongs the country is guilty of, but we can show that we are not the country that the likes of Narinder appears to paint us as.
But the reality is also that your average working class Englishman and woman are more likely to feel pride for their national flag, than the so-called middle class. The last YouGov poll which looked at the question of pride and flags found that over half (56%) of the public had pride in St. George’s flag. This shouldn’t be surprising, because it remains in line with the other countries in the United Kingdom (Scotland 55% and Wales 56%).
Unless Narinder believes the majority of Englishman and woman are far-Right, then she is talking utter rubbish. Flags are important because their represent our history and our future, not just one aspect of history Narinder Kaur feels obliged to highlight whenever she is given the opportunity.
